"He's a nice person; he respects everybody because he knows where he's from"-- Clottey on Pacquiao
Filipino Sports Examiner | Dennis "dSource" Guillermo
Former world welterweight champion Joshua Clottey spoke to the media today in a conference call hosted by Top Rank Promotions.
Together with his manager and promoter Bob Arum, Clottey addressed the media's questions and gave updates on his training camp.
Here's highlights of the conference call as well as an audio clip of Clottey's responses in a video I posted below.
When asked whether he considered asking Pacquiao to go through the similar Olympics-style drug testing Floyd Mayweather Jr. demanded from him that ultimately led to the fallout in the negotiations of their mega-fight, Clottey responded,
"You know, I don't want to do that because I respect him so much. He's a very nice guy. He's so nice. I feel comfortable around him,"
"He's a nice person, he respects everybody, because he knows where he's from. I don't think Manny Pacquiao do that thing (HGH or steroids), but if in case he does that, he is cheating the sport, himself and God,"
On his preparations:
"I just want to say that I'm training, I'm doing everything to make people happy,"
"I'm coming to do my best up on the ring."
On Pacquiao:
"Like I always say, he's a good fighter. He's the best now. There's no doubt about that."
On his seemingly lack of aggressiveness in some previous fights:
"I'm not a flyweight. I'm not a bantamweight. I'am a welterweight. And when I throw a punch, I throw a punch that will connect. I'm not a light flyweight so I throw shots which can cause damage"
